The International Weightlifting Federation has extended its commercial partnership with SBD.
The British company SBD has been appointed by the World Weightlifting Federation as the official supplier of protective equipment for athletes.
The International Weightlifting Federation has extended its partnership with UK-based SBD, according to the Sports Economics specialist platform. In an announcement released on October 29, 2026, the company will now also supply weightlifting belts, knee braces, knee bandages, and wristbands, in addition to competition apparel.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 2026 World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China, with the products becoming available from October 27. The equipment is manufactured at SBD’s central factory in Sheffield, England, as stated in the announcement.
This partnership builds on the 2025 agreement, in which SBD became the Federation’s official partner and supplier of weightlifting apparel. However, despite the announcement of the expanded collaboration, the financial value and exact duration of the new contract terms remain undisclosed.
From a sports economics perspective, such agreements go beyond mere brand exposure at competitions. Supplying specialized equipment can strengthen brand relationships with professional athletes, national federations, and the sports equipment consumer market. By partnering with a specialized manufacturer, the Federation can also enhance access to standard equipment and create new business opportunities.
The International Weightlifting Federation has announced that SBD has collaborated with 17 national federations in its first year in this field, with its products available in 62 countries. However, without the contract amount being disclosed, it is impossible to provide an accurate estimate of the financial value or revenue generated by the new partnership.
